Other Names: Purple Head Barbs, Black Ruby Barb

The Ruby Barbs can be very misleading because only the male will exhibit the rich red colour. As you can see form above the have several names due to the varying colours available, to achieve their best colours have both sexes in a small shoal.

Ideal Conditions:

  • Water: Slightly acidic to neutral water, soft to slightly hard
  • Temperature: 68-79F (20-26C)
  • Food: small live or frozen aquatic invertebrates, such as daphnia, mosquito larvae, and blood worm. Flake foods. Green foods, such as peas or lettuce to deter the fish from nibbling the plants
  • Min number in the aquarium:4

  • Tank Region: Bottom, middle and top
