Other Considerations on Aquarium Location
We have covered many areas including not placing your aquarium near high traffic, not near windows and doors and ofcourse nearwater supply. So this is the last few things you must consider.
Electrical
Check for electrical outlets near the place you want to set you tank. Nothing is more frustrating than setting up a tank only to find out that you have nowhere to plug in your aquarium equipment. Make sure that electrical outlets and trust me you need more than one and are in good working condition and are close to the tank so you don’t have extension cords lying around, which can short out, look messy, are difficult to clean around, and can cause people to trip. And make sure your outlets are up to code. If necessary, get a professional electrician to install a new outlet; or use a multi-outlet strip. Be careful to locate the plugs far enough away so waters not splashed over the electric outlets.
Cleaning
Once in while, you have to do a little cleaning and maintenance on your aquarium. So ensure you have left enough room around your tank to allow cleaning and easily access.
Even aquariums with tight-fitting hoods tend to have drips and dribbles every so often. So one way or another, you have to get behind your aquarium at some point. Make sure when you are setting up your tank that you have plenty of space to take care of any problems that may occur.

Other factors that effect Water Temperature
Windows
Sounds harmless ..right? But if you place your aquarium near a window you can have several problems. Firstly the temperature of your water could be effected, when your freshwater aquarium has long periods of sun on it the temperature will rise and thus affect the fishes. Consider not puttng it there or add curtains to keep the heat off. If you live in a cold country then its the opposite drafts or chilly air can lower the aquarium temperature,so therefore its easier to avoid windows full stop.
Another factor that you must consider is algae growth. placing a tank near natural sunlight will increase the growth of algae by many fold. Once algae begins to overrun your aquarium, it can be really difficult to get of.
So you can see windows are a no go for aquariums.
Doors
Exterior doors can be very drafty, and placing your aquarium near them will lower the temperature of water. Place your tank well away from any outside doors to avoid drafts.
Interior doors have other issues, not from the cold but from the door hitting the aquarium, most door knobs are at the right level to hit the tank. WIth a hard bang from a door knob and yur fish could be swimming on the floor. So before fixing the location test out the door to ensure it will not hit the tank.

Finding the Best Location for your Aquarium
Before we do anything we need to look for a good place to set up our freshwater aquarium, the layout of the house including human traffic, windows, door and other elements will have a major effect on yor aquarium success. Carefully inspect the area where you plan to set up your aquarium to check for a few easily avoided hazards. A little good judgment and patience goes a long way.
We examine a few common physical problems that can occur when we place our aquariums in the wrong spot. Most people like to place the aquaium at a focal point of the room, but at times we are unable too. Last thing we want to do is place tha aquariuma in a place where there to much human traffic. If you put it where kids run around then theres bound to the accident where the tank a gets knocked over over worse your kids get injuried so plan out carefully. So start your aquarium in the right place from the very beginning and save yourself a bunch of migraines later on.
Things we need to considerbefore we pour the water in:
- Room temperature and what effects it has
- Other factors like Windows and doors
- Kids and high traffic areas
- Water source
- Other Considerations
- Space and Cleaning
- Electrical
Starting Out Right
Nothing well be more fustrating than having to move our aquarium after you have added the water and worse if fishes and plants have been added. Aquariums are very heavy when fully loaded and must be drained to be moved to a new location. It’s better to take a day or two and look over your opinions than to just put up the aquarium without any forethought. Start out on the right foot if you want to be successful.
